Default Troll Unguent, why is it so popular?

I am deeply involved in my W/R, and it's hard enough as is to compare to the ever so over-powered and popular W/Mo.

I tried Troll Unguent for a while, but in my opinion it take so long to start up (load up), and it doesn't heal as fast (I know it can get up to 9, but I don't have enough points) or instant as healing signet.

Someone please explain why it's so popular? Could you justify it?

ahhhaah, well there is the healing spring skill which heals for like 10 secs for like 30-36 health..but it does take a little long to load....W/Mo is much more better for healing than W/R

Still, wouldn't Healing Signet be much more efficient? My char W/R20, and I don't feel like getting rid of this my char to make a Paladin (which are so unoriginal, which I can't emphasize enough).

Healing Signet is instant health, and much faster to initiate.

I'm really considering using Troll Unguent, since it is seems like the wise way to go, but I'd really like some justification on why I should use it, and what situations should it be applied to.

(By the way, I often play a semi-tanker, so I like to smash head-on in many situations, so would Troll Unguent suit that?).

There are 2 problems with healing signet.
1) You take double damage when casting it.
2) Your going to need to put a lot into tactics to make it worth the hp's at high level. So do you have any other use for tactics in your build?

Also, what do you think your going to do with a Mo secondary? A Wo/Mo build has a whole load of problems all of it's own when it comes to healing. Yes they get a lot more choice but they still don't have the mana pool or regen rate to use any of it. The best a Wo/Mo can offer is an ability to cure that Apply poison you just used and hope he can run away fast enough to be able to use it again before he gets hit once more! lol!

Troll Unguent is better than Healing Signet if you use it correctly.

Healing Signet is an instant heal, however to get any benefit from it you need to be injured. (if you are full health when you cast it, are you healing anything? Nope). If you are injured while casting Healing Signet, more than likely you are in combat already and still being attacked, thus the need to use it. If you are getting attacked and your opponent is skilled, they will be waiting for you to use that Healing Signet and inflict a massive attack on you while you are casting it. Possibly negating the effects of the Signet completely.

The Troll Unguent on the other hand is a Heal over Time, and should be used initially just before you engage in combat with your opponents. For the first 8-10 seconds of the battle you will be regening like mad, any initial damage you take will more than likely be completly negated by the Troll Unguents regen. As soon as it wears off, toss it up again and fight for that 8-10 seconds without worrying much about damage you are taking.

If the enemy casts a damage over time spell on you, toss up the Unguent, your HP will most likely not even drop at all, and by the time the DoT wears off, the Unguent will still be on you.

The main difference is that the Signet, to get the full benefit requires you to be hurt and thus at more risk to being finished off by the enemy. The Unguent keeps you at or near max life if used correctly.

I have a ranger/warrior build that is almost unkillable by using dodge/evade stances, and skills that blind my enemy whenever I want. In combat my health hardly ever drops below 75% and when it does, I get it back up to 100% really fast.

the thing i love the most is that with +8 regen on mine, it means nearly EVERY health-drain type of spell can be negated. Even if it keeps my health completely steady instead of dropping, and usually it manages to keep it going up by at least 3 whilst poisoned/phatasm-ed etc. Great spell. And it only costs 5 energy (or 2 for me )

As a ranger/mesmer that and healing springs are the only healing I have (I tend not to use mesmer skills, though I could use Ether Feast to heal) and while healing springs is great (+48 health every 2 seconds for 10 seconds), it is a very easily interrupted spell.

You just have to know when to use it, if you wait it is usually too late and your toast during the casting time. R/W I am finding to be a fun and great class. I use the bow with duel shot and ignite arrows to really share the love at the beginning of most encounters then switch to the sword. I think it is a combo that takes a little more finesse to work right.

As a warrior going against rangers using it, I can tell you, it heals very well. I'm a W/E so the sig is all I have. My goal is to have a healer heal me, so I can focus on damage. Some warriors can take more damage, some can deal more. As a W/R looks like you could go either way, but I have never played one so I don't know.
